About the IMO Muslim Scout Group

IMO in partnership with Scouts Canada is proud to announce the launching of the “65th. IMO Muslim Scouts Group.”  The IMO is dedicated to our community to provide quality programming for our youths.


The "IMO MUSLIM Scouts Group" is finally here.  We are looking for boys and girls ages 5 - 14 to join up.  The children will be learning basic skills of outdoor and indoor activities and how to be safe when they are in these environments.  They will have the opportunity to perform prayers and enjoy halal meals when necessary which was not the case in previous years.                                                                                

Our volunteers are all security cleared staff and trained by Scouts Canada.  Weekly Tuesday night programs are conducted at the IMO centre and is approximately sixty (60) to ninety (90) minutes long.


This is an educational program for our youths and we recommend parents take the initiative to encourage their children to join.  We are also looking for male and female volunteers age 18 yrs and up.


Scouting is a values-based program with its own code of conduct.  The Scout Oath and Law help instill the values of good conduct, respect for others, and honesty.  Scouts learn skills that will last a lifetime, including basic outdoor skills, first aid, citizenship skills, leadership skills, and how to get along with others.  For almost a century, Scouting has instilled in young men and women the values and knowledge that they will need to become leaders in their communities and country.

Islam: a misunderstood religion

 

Islam has certainly become a misunderstood religion and because of that sincere Muslims have already started paying the price. When you're unknown to people you become feared and look strange especially in this time of doubt and uncertainty. The recent unjustified backlash in North America, which burst out after the attack of September 11, is a proof of that fear. A new form of terrorism driven by frustration and anger has pushed some people against Muslims, Arabs, and other visible minorities. Have we really become immediate suspects in airports, border crossing and other places because we are different in our look and creed or is it simply a bad dream?
